Provincials and RU Fast
A couple weekends ago me and one of my Calgary teammates traveled home to compete in the provincial championships so that we could qualify for Canadian championships later in the month. Clearly the training at the training center has been working because not only did we qualify for Canadians, we easily placed top two in every distance
(Me, Taylor and my sister Hannah on the podium)

In Town Training Camp
Calgary was hosting the World Sprint Championships (long track) this past weekend which was really exciting but it also meant that we had to take out the short track mats in the middle of the oval so we didn’t have ice all week. In order to replace our on-ice training we had what our coach called an “In Town Training Camp.”
The camp consisted of some brutal off-ice training. We...

Racing, racing and more racing.
National qualifier is this weekend! Raced from 1:30-9:00 yesterday and racing again from 1:30-6:00(ish) today. Managed to get a 1 second personal best in my 500 yesterday so things are going pretty good so far.

American Cup
This weekend me and the rest of my training group traveled to Cleveland Ohio to skate in American Cup 2 and to say things did not go as planned would be an understatement. First our flight out of Calgary was delayed so we missed our connecting flight and ended up arriving 4-5 hours later than anticipated and things kind of went from there; people missed busses, taxies were late, because the...

So I’ve been doing mostly short track since I’ve been out here (other than one long track race that did not go well at all) and it’s been going really well. Since I haven’t done much short track in the past two years I improved all my times at the first competition a couple weekends ago. This does not mean that things have been coming easily though. I managed to come...

Testing
neverthoughtidseeit:
I have so much testing this week for skating and I’m freaking out. Testing sucks and it hurts and they make you do things like bike until you die while pricking your finger for blood and I am NOT EXCITED.

Hello, I'm still here!
I have successfully moved to Calgary and started training at the oval. Today was my first day training with the group and we had two technical ice sessions and oh dear, I can already tell this is going to be a long week. I hadn’t been on the ice in forever so my legs were burning. It’s day one and I’m already tired and tomorrow we’re actually doing lape and I will be...

Update
So I’ve finished my first training cycle, ten days of training, and now I’m onto 4 days of rest.
My arms are still so sore because I have zero arm strength and this is something my trainer has decided to work on
I also got into the short track program and the Olympic Oval in Calgary and paid my oval fees this week and now I’m pretty excited to start training there …but I...
Officially back into training
I already can’t walk. So far it’s just been runs and bikes and stuff like that but today we’re doing a circuit.
I got up early to go for a run before work and omg the thought of standing for five hours now really does not appeal to me, I don’t know how people do it.

To add to the amazing season that I had this year, they’ve changed the time standards for the oval program in Calgary so instead of having 3 of the times I needed I now have 0 so pretty much the chances of me getting into the program are slim to none.

Yeaaaa skating season is over!
1 month active rest and then back into training for next season.
Glad this season’s over, it wasn’t a great one for me pumped for active rest and then training so that hopefully next season will go a lot better.
Too sick to skate today
Day 1 of racing
I did the 500 even though I felt like I was going to die, the time was slow but not as slow as I thought it was going to be. I kind of died at the end though just because being sick takes so much out of you… don’t know if I’ll be able to do a 1000 tomorrow.
Update
I didn’t skate today because I was feeling too sick :(
I also pulled out of the 3000 tomorrow and I’m going to try and get up and do the 500 in the morning but that means waking up at 6:45 …it’s only 8:00 but it feels like bedtime already.
Calgary so far
I am deathly ill. I don’t think I have been this sick since about grade 7 or 8. I skated a bit yesterday but I woke up feeling worse today so I went to a clinic and they’re going to run a swab for strep but they can’t give me anything until the test comes back :/
I might try to skate a bit again today and then I guess we’ll see how I’m feeling whether I can race...
Off to Calgary for Canada Cup 4 tomorrow :)
Oh, and I guess I never told anyone how provincials went.. after getting DQ’d (or penalized w/e it’s called now) in the first race of the competition and therefore starting off with 6th place points I managed to come back to win a bronze medal.
Now before you get all impressed please note that there were only 7 people in our age group.

Skating was kind of a joke tonight, the big meets/last meets of the season are next week so there’s not much we can do now because let’s face it, your fitness and technique is not going to change in a week.
It was one of the skaters (Julien’s) birthday so we put up balloons and sang to him and gave him a card and stuff. (he also had a birthday tiara and a pink birthday ribbon...

Skating at the Pacers was not as fun as Monday.
We did starts on the 100m track then starts on the 111m track (the normal track) then passing drills :|
The program was (6,5,4,3) and we did it twice. We were going to practice the 3000 points race but thankfully the zamboni guys came and we had to leave.
And that was their competitive hour’s practice …felt like I was on the...
